Why we use organza bags to protect our blooms.

Okay okay, you're growing for pleasure. That's great, and what pleasure these beautiful plants bring us every day!
Here at Ragged Mountain Perennials, we both grow for pleasure, but we also sell our blooms to florists and at a market stand. We want (nearly) flawless blooms, so we do everything we can to maximize our potential for success.
We pain painstakingly dis-bud our dahlias, aiming to produce larger blooms. We cull sick or viral plants. Yes, we even bag our dahlia blooms. We use organza bags to protect the budding plants before they blossom. Humans aren't the only ones that enjoy dahlias; animals and (especially) insects love our beautiful plants.

Deformed and gnawed blossoms aren't particularly unsettling for the home gardener, but florists want perfect blooms. For that reason we bag our dahlias. It is time consuming for sure, but we are consistently rewarded with beautiful blooms that have been protected from insects. Give it a try.....or not! 😜
